Nutrifoods Ghana Limited has commissioned a newly upgraded canmaking line at its culinary plant in the Tema Industrial Area, representing an investment of more than US$500,000 to enhance metal packaging capabilities for its Tasty Tom tomato range.
The modernised line—formally inaugurated by Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah—is engineered to strengthen packaging safety systems, reinforce quality-control processes, and support a highly reliable 24-hour production schedule. The upgrade aligns with Nutrifoods’ broader strategy to improve pack integrity, boost throughput and support government’s 24-hour economy agenda.
In his remarks, Debrah commended Nutrifoods for championing job creation through its round-the-clock operating model, noting that the company’s extended value chain has created over 2,000 jobs. He added that the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry is finalising a comprehensive programme aimed at incentivising industrial productivity, expanding value addition and improving supply chain efficiency for local manufacturers.
Commenting on Nutrifoods’ reliance on imported tomato paste from China and the United States, the Chief of Staff acknowledged the country’s significant production potential but highlighted persistent supply chain gaps. He noted that the upcoming industrial programme will prioritise value addition to local raw materials to help curb periodic food gluts and strengthen industrial resilience.
Nutrifoods Managing Director and Business Head, Jay Anjaria, said the upgraded canmaking line underscores the company’s commitment to global manufacturing standards and consumer safety. He emphasised that Nutrifoods’ brands—developed, processed and packaged in Ghana—are benchmarked against international quality protocols, including the FSSC 22000 certification that positioned the company as the first biscuit manufacturer in West Africa to achieve GFSI recognition.
Anjaria added that Nutrifoods continues to invest in technical capacity-building to support the future of advanced food and packaging manufacturing in Ghana. He reaffirmed the company’s adherence to all regulatory requirements and its commitment to transparent, responsible production practices.
Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, a joint venture between Olam International and Sanyo Foods, operates biscuit and culinary production plants in Tema, serving both domestic and export markets. Its portfolio includes the fortified Tasty Tom Tomato Mix and biscuit brands such as Perk, Nutricia and King Cracker.
